Prada is one of those brands we see come through the racks consistently, and for good reason. Miuccia Prada spent the late '90s and 2000s rewriting what luxury fashion could look like, and the archive still rewards those paying attention. Here's a look at the eras worth knowing.
SS1999 I Mirrored & Technical Minimalism
One of Prada's most influential minimalist eras. Clean lines, nylon tailoring, and a forward-looking take on utility defined the collection. Accessories from this era, especially nylon bags and anything with the statement mirror circle motifs perform strongly on the resale market.
SS2000 I Lip Print
SS2000 introduced Prada's iconic lip print, a playful but subversive graphic
that has since become one of the brand's most recognisable early-2000s motifs.
SS2004 I Retro Tourism
This collection marked a shift toward colour, nostalgia and a tongue-incheek
take on mid-century vacation culture. Think postcard motifs, cheerful
colours, tourist prints, and silhouettes that blend escapism with Prada's intellectual edge.
FW2007 I The Crinkle Collection
FW2007 introduced Prada's now famous "crinkled nylon" and textured
green fabrics. The finish offered a futuristic but organic feel. Pieces from
this season are highly recognisable in the archive market due to the
distinctive crushed texture and jewel toned palette.
SS2008 I The Fairy Collection
Illustrated by artist James Jean, the SS08 runways remain one of Prada's most romantic moments. Fairy-tale imagery from this collection became instant collector pieces.
SS2009 I A Return to Craft
SS09 looked toward raw fabrics, natural textures, and imperfect beauty: frayed edges, earthy tones, raffia, and hand-worked details.
SS2011 I Banana Print
A milestone in itself, SS11 revived Prada's reputation for bold, graphic prints. The neon bananas and tropical stripes became instant icons, inspiring countless editorials and highstreet copies. Items from this season remain some of the most recognisable (and sought-after) Prada pieces ever produced.
FW2011 I Illusion Shield Sunglasses
From the same year, FW11 introduced the surreal "illusion" sunglasses - face-hugging frames with shield-style silhouettes. These glasses have become a collector favourite due to their sculptural quality and futuristic, instantly identifiable shape.
SS2012 I The Flame Shoes
One of Prada's most famous accessories. The SS12 flame heels merged 1950s car culture with high fashion , combining pin-up kitsch with aerodynamic shapes. They quickly reached cult status and remain centrepieces in archival footwear collections.
